Update report of Thunderbyte Anti-Virus utilities.
Prefixes:
'-' indicates a change that does not require user attention.
'->' indicates a modification that requires user attention, such as a
change in program invocation, etc.
6.38 Product update
-------------------
General notes:
- This is a 'preview' release of TBAV 6.50, which will have a
completely new designed heuristic engine.
The actual reason for this preview release is that we added
detection for four currently quickly spreading viruses: NightFall,
ByWay, WordMacro.Concept, Media.
- This release introduces the final evaluation version of
TBAV-for-Windows95 ! After three months of beta-testing we are
now ready to start shipping our native 32-bit anti-virus
application, with full support of the Windows95 features.
By the end of September we will have all the advanced features of
TBAV-for-Windows, like the Background scanning, Application Execution
Tracker and File I/O monitor, implemented in the Windows95-version
of TBAV!
The final evaluation version of TBAV-for-Windows95 V6.38 is
available (without charge!) from the ThunderBYTE support BBS!
Get TBW95638 or contact your local distributor for more information!
- NEW EMAIL ADDRESS!!!
In order to provide you better service we have a dedicated
support E-Mail address. Instead of using the address of the main
developers of TBAV or TBAV-for-Windows you should use the
support site address. The new address is
<tbavtech@worldaccess.nl>.
- We have a WWW-server up and running! Besides the 24 hours a day
support via CompuServe, we have set up a WWW server to provide
you better service. You can contact ThunderBYTE via the World
Wide Web at <http://www.thunderbyte.com>.
- The printed manual has been completely rewritten. It covers
TBAV-for-Dos, TBAV-for-Windows and TBAV-for-Networks. If you are
using the old printed manual, we advise you to contact your
local distributor to get a updated manual.
- The electronic manual provided with TBAV-for-Dos has been
revised. Those of you who once printed the "TBAV.DOC" file,
are advised to print out this new electronic manual. Please note
that this electronic manual only covers TBAV-for-Dos. The
manuals for TBAV-for-Windows and TBAV-for-Networks are formed
by the Windows-based .HLP-files for these products.
Older news:
- ThunderBYTE Anti-Virus is supported electronically 24 hours
a day via CompuServe. You can contact us via the ThunderBYTE
Forum (GO TBYTE), WUGNET/WINUTIL Forum (GO WINUTIL) and via the
Windows News Forum (GO WINNEWS).
- TBAV-for-Dos comes with a file containing answers to some
Frequently Asked Questions. This file, called TBAV.FAQ, can be
viewed via the TBAV-for-Windows and TBAV-for-DOS 'Documentation'
menu.
- TBAV-for-Networks has been released. This product, which
operates together with TBAVWIN, allows you to implement a secure
anti-virus system on your network! An evaluation version of
TBAV-for-Networks V6.38 is available (without charge!) from the
ThunderBYTE support BBS! Get TBAVN638 or contact your local
distributor for more information!
TbUtil:
- The TbUtil immunized partition code is now compatible with
Windows 95!
TbScanX:
- Solved a bug that caused in some situations General Protection
errors under Windows.
TbScan:
- The heuristic engine has been redesigned! Detection rate has been
improved, while the false positive rate has been significantly
reduced. Without option 'heuristics' TbScan now detects about
80% of the viruses! If you specify option 'heuristics' (the so
called 'paranoia mode'), TbScan now detects about 95% of the
viruses! The default heuristic level should never produce 'false
positives' anymore, and the amount of 'false positives' in the
paranoia mode has been reduced to 20% of what it used to be.
The next version of TbScan will be a major new version with
heuristic capabilities that are even better than it is now.
- To ease testing of the new heuristic engine, we added a new
option 'hrtest' that causes TbScan to disable signature scanning.
- TbScan now scans for the WordMacro.Concept virus in document files.
- TbScan now scans for batchfile viruses as well.
Viruses:
- Changed signatures:
Twisted (detects a new variant)
Wizard (detects a new variant)
- Added signatures:
